Sorry I didn’t get this picture 1/2 second sooner before Carly finished her final back squat, this is the 6:45 class staying to cheer her on through the end!! This is what we mean when we talk about community.

Kind of a lot of news so please bear with me for a long post!

First off, the 2013 CrossFit Open is now over! What’re your thoughts? Did you have fun? I for one think it’ll be nice to get back into a regular training schedule and not be concerned with the open WOD 1-2 times each week!
It was pretty cool to see so many people get signed up and compete each week. We had over 60 people signed up and I think we can double that for 2014!
Boise CrossFit has also unofficially qualified a team for a trip to Regionals! Last I looked we finished in 15th place in the region and our team even took 5th place on the final workout! Out-freakin-standing! We haven’t had a chance to finalize the team that will be traveling to Seattle (actually Kent WA) in May for the regional event and there’s a small chance I’ll get an individual invite (I was 5 places out of an automatic qualifying and if enough ppl go team then they may fill the vacancies with people who finished out of the top 48). Either way Boise CrossFit will be at the 2013 NorthWest regionals. There’s already carpool and other travel talk happening on the Facebook Boise CrossFit open page. Can’t wait to cheer on team BCF and we will certainly have more details very soon!
We also would like to say thank you to everyone who brought baked “betters” and also those of you that helped by purchasing items! Peggy’s “better for you” bake sale was a big success and raised over $400 towards and AED (automated external defibrillator) for the gym. Boise CrossFit would like to make up the difference for the AED cost and get it into the gym ASAP. Again, a special thanks to Peggy for getting the ball rolling for this!

Thank you BCF for making up the difference for the AED. This is a very important piece of equipment that every CrossFit gym should have! The bake sale was a fun way to get it done and we hope opened some eyes and taste buds to the paleo way of baking!

Also wanted to thank Peggy and Mel. When I approached Peggy about a fund raiser for an AED, we stared talking and she came up with a better for you bake sale, Yum! We then approached Mel about setting the nutritional standards. It is so great to have such talented thinkers and bakers in our gym. Also wanted to thank all of the people who bought and donated money. Awesome!

Thanks for the awesome post, Andy! I’m so inspired after this year’s Open. There were so many amazing moments, of people going above and beyond, tackling things they’ve never done before, giving it their all! My favorite moment was Petra’s performance in 13.5. She placed 22nd in the region in that WOD! I’m so impressed with how Courtney and Petra worked together to prepare for the Open, helping each other every step of the way. The Boise CrossFit women athletes really stepped up this year, and their hard work paid off with a berth to Regionals! I’m so proud of everyone and so excited to cheer on the team! And a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped with the bake sale: Melissa and Kathy for helping organize it, all of the bakers who donated goodies, Ivory who always goes above and beyond, and everyone who contributed money. I for one will take comfort in having an AED on site in case I keel over during a WOD! Thank you, Boise CrossFit owners, for everything!

P.S. Andy, if you end up qualifying individually for Regionals, I hope you’ll go team! Refinery and Meridian are probably both going to lose their best athletes to the individual competition…wouldn’t it be awesome to shoot for having the best Idaho-based team in the region! That’d be cool and great for the gym!!!
