There are multiple reason we program workouts. The desire to work certain skills, to consistently train through a linear strength cycle, to test benchmark workouts. Another consideration is energy systems. When we program a workout we expect to take 5-10 minutes, and an athlete takes it into the 15-20 minute range (or longer), they begin to train ¬†through different energy systems. This is not necessarily a bad thing, except that that wasn’t the intention for that day (check back two days ago for the link of scaling vs rx-ing workouts!) and we may be missing out on important aspects of our fitness.
