When did you start at BCF?
I started at BCF in the Spring of 2010.
Favorite WOD or Lift:
My favorite lift is the overhead squat. I think I love this lift because it is so challenging. You have to be thinking about your core and your form the whole time you are doing it.
Do you remember your first class at BCF? What was it like?
My first WOD was 75 wall balls. My legs were Jell-O afterwards….I pretty much had to fall backwards into my car. I think I realized then that workouts at BCF wouldn’t be a waste of my time. I remember during those 75 wall balls that everyone kept cheering me on. I think that support was the only reason I didn’t give up.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit at BCF?
The changes I have seen in my body and health have been incredible! I’ve been amazed by the weight I’m able to lift and even more amazed by the weight I’ve been able to lose. CrossFit has increased my confidence in all areas of my life. When you feel healthy and strong your life seems to open up. Hikes and mountain biking with friends no longer seem intimating to me. When I first started BCF I used to literally wheeze during the WOD’s, but overtime my lungs got healthier and the wheezing went away (thank God!). I have been able to sign up for several 10K’s, at the last minute, and have a blast doing them.
There was a point at the beginning where I decided to quit going to CrossFit. My friend Kristen pushed me to start going again. I’ve been consistent with it since then. It has honestly been one of the best decisions I have made. If you are new to BCF, I really encourage you to stick with it. I promise you that you will not regret it.
What are some of your favorite BCF moments?
My favorite moments at BCF have revolved around the community of people who work out there. I love staying late after a WOD and talking for an hour. I have loved getting to know the people at BCF and I have seen over the years how caring and generous they are.
What are your CrossFit goals?
My “CrossFit goal” is to show up! I know that if I just show up I will challenge myself. If I show up I will get stronger. If I show up I will continually improve. Showing up is half the battle.
Any advice for someone just starting out?
My advice to you if you’re new to BCF is don’t give up. If you stick with CrossFit your lifestyle and body will improve…I guarantee you. You will find yourself loving CrossFit. Rely on the people around you to motivate you. I remember how it felt to be new. It can be hard to see all the areas that you wish you were stronger in. However, if you knew me…and my wheezing…you would be amazed at the difference that a few years of consistently showing up has made in my life and my body. I’m healthier, stronger, and smaller then I have ever been. SO if you are thinking about quitting, please come talk to me. I’ll remind you of ALL the reasons you need to stick with it.
