Name: Natalie G
Occupation: Probation/Parole Officer
When did you first start CrossFit? August 2011
Favorite WOD or Lift: “Annie” I just started stringing 10-20 double unders together so I love any WOD that has double unders in it.
Least Favorite WOD or Lift: Any WOD that involves the row machine. After I get done rowing, my legs feel like Jell-O and my lungs feel like they are on fire.
Do you remember your first class at Boise CrossFit? What was it like?
I don’t remember the exact workout but I do remember that it involved running 800 meters. It was late August and I thought I was going to pass out. I think I only ran about 400 meters and had to start walking. At first I was a little embarrassed but what made me come back was everyone cheering me even though I was in last place.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFitat BCF? Before joining Crossfit, I never worked out for more than a couple of months at a time in my life. I never played sports and could never maintain a healthy lifestyle. I still have a long ways to go, but I am so much stronger and I can start to see muscle definition. Ican now run a 5K without stopping. I’m still a little on the slow side but it’s such a huge improvement from when I first started and couldn’t even run 800 meters.
What are some of your favorite BCF moments?
I love how inspiring Crossfit can be. It doesn’t matter if you are brand new or a seasonedCrossfitter, someone is always there to cheer you on. It’s such a good feeling to see someone get their first pull-up or muscle-up or PR on a lift.
What are your CrossFit goals? My goal is to continue to be consistent and attend 4-5 classes a week. Maintaining this lifestyle is a huge accomplishment for me and hopefully in the interim I will get faster times and be able to lift heavier weights.
Any advice for someone just starting out? Crossfit can be a rollercoaster! Some days you feel on top of the world and some days you feel like you’re not making any progress. But if you stick with it, you will get better. And if you’re like me, it will really change your life.
Anything else that you would like people to know? Crossfit has really changed my life. My job can be very negative and I see people at their worst. To be able to go to Crossfit after my job and be surrounded with positive people trying to do their best is the perfect ending to my day. I go home feeling healthy and happy instead of stressed and burnt out.
