Name: Jeremy L
When did you first start CrossFit? January 2013
Favorite WOD or lift: Cleans
Least Favorite WOD or lift: Overhead squats and snatches are tough due to my poor shoulder mobility, and those damn DOUBLE UNDERS!
Do you remember your first class at Boise CrossFit? What was it like? My first class was very difficult. It was a round robin of 5 different movements with a partner. It consisted of wall balls, box jumps, a lift, burpees, and something else I can’t remember. I smoke, so I had no breath and my body was so out of shape. I didn’t puke, but I was on the verge.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit at BCF? In the last year I’ve seen a tremendous change in my body and my endurance. My body has lost a ton of fat while gaining in strength and I can see more definition and tone in my muscle structure. But the real change has been my endurance. In the beginning I couldn’t do more than 1-3 box jumps, burpees, etc… without dying or wanting to throw-up. Now I can do over 15-20 without skipping a beat. That to me is worth all the hell.
What are some of your favorite BCF moments? I had a really nice time suffering with Murali and others during the Barbell for Boobs event. Nice to see everyone cheering each other on through the suffering.
What are your CrossFit Goals? Just to keep going on a weekly basis. Each time I go it’s a small victory for me. It was a tough year and CrossFit has been one of the primary keys in getting me through the hard times that life dealt out.
Any advice for someone just starting out? Take it second by second. Really understand the correct form for each movement and let your EGO go. I hurt my knee early on due to not having the correct form and letting my ego tell me I needed more weight.
Anything else that you would like people to know? It was my best friend who got me to finally go to BCF. I hated the idea of going to a gym because I didn’t understand it and quite frankly I was afraid. So plant the seeds to not let fear dictate life and get your friends off their butts and on to a better path. I thank my best friend every day for it.
